Anthem, UnitedHealthcare and UMR Extend COVID-19 Treatment and Care Coverage

Anthem, UnitedHealthcare and UMR recently announced an extension of COVID-19 coverage, treatment and testing. As such, the First Person team put together a simple outline to explain the differences in the extensions for the various plan types and service types. Anthem Fully Insured

  • COVID Test/Diagnosis Covered under mandate.
  • COVID Treatment – Covered through December 31, 2020.
  • Non-COVID Visit via Physician Telemedicine – Applicable cost sharing applies based on plan provisions as of October 1, 2020.
  • Non-COVID Visit via Live Health Online, Virtual Visits or Teladoc – Applicable cost sharing applies based on plan provisions as of October 1, 2020.

Anthem Self-Funded

  • COVID Test/Diagnosis Covered under mandate.
  • COVID Treatment – Applicable only if the employer elected to cover treatment at no cost share.
  • Non-COVID Visit via Physician Telemedicine – Applicable cost sharing applies based on plan provisions as of October 1, 2020. Employer needs to elect to waive, if desired.
  • Non-COVID Visit via Live Health Online, Virtual Visits or Teladoc – Applicable cost sharing applies based on plan provisions as of October 1, 2020. Employer needs to elect to waive, if desired.

UnitedHealthcare

  • COVID Test/Diagnosis Member pays but will be reimbursed by UHC (can take up to 60 days; provider responsibility) through October 2022. After October 2022, applicable cost sharing applies based on plan provisions.
  • COVID Treatment – In-network treatment is covered through December 31, 2020.
  • Non-COVID Visit via Physician Telemedicine – Applicable cost sharing applies based on plan provisions as of October 1, 2020.
  • Non-COVID Visit via Live Health Online, Virtual Visits or Teladoc – Applicable cost sharing applies based on plan provisions as of October 1, 2020.

UMR

  • COVID Test/Diagnosis Covered under mandate.
  • COVID Treatment – Employer needs to elect to waive, if desired.
  • Non-COVID Visit via Physician Telemedicine – If the employer initially elected to waive cost share for non-COVID-related physician medicine, the coverage is extended through the emergency period.
  • Non-COVID Visit via Live Health Online, Virtual Visits or Teladoc – Employer needs to elect to waive, if desired.
